Bowen Therapy: Tap Into Your Body’s Natural Healing Memory With Peter Briant

Bowen Technique with Peter Briant

Bowen Technique with Peter Briant

Bowen Technique is an excellent way of helping the body to heal itself.

It is a gentle manipulation technique, involving a series of movements over specific points on the body.

It is typically used to treat:

  • Back problems
  • Neck problems
  • Headaches & migraines
  • Knee / ankle / joint problems
  • Asthma
  • Stress
  • Hayfever
  • RSI
  • Pregnancy-related hip and joint pain

What Is Bowen Technique

Bowen Technique was founded by Tom Bowen in Australia, about 60 years ago.
He developed the technique over the following 3 decades.
The more he helped people with their ailments and injuries, the more he became convinced that the human body is designed to heal itself.
He saw himself not as a healer, but as a facilitator, helping the body to access its memory of its blueprint for health.

His series of specific movements help trigger the body to access these memories.

Bowen Technique has since helped hundreds of thousands of people, worldwide.

What Does A Session Involve?

Your session starts with a case history discussion, to allow your therapist to tailor the session to your specific needs.

You will receive your treatment either lying on a therapy couch or in a chair.

Clients should wear lightweight clothing, as most movements can be performed through thin fabric. However, some moves are best performed directly on the skin. Your Bowen Technique therapist would advise when this is the case.

Bowen Therapy is not about the therapist “treating” the client. The movements unlock the body’s own ability to treat itself.

The focus of Bowen Therapy is to trigger the body’s instinctive, hard-wired healing response.

This is why, after each movement, the therapist leaves the client for about 2 minutes, to allow you to relax and integrate the effects of the manipulation. This may seem a little strange if your previous experiences of therapy have been a therapist constantly “working on you”! But in Bowen Technique, this pause is when the healing actually occurs.

The philosophy behind a Bowen Treatment is not to overload the body with more than it is ready to heal. A treatment consists of the minimum number of moves to address the underlying concern that is presenting on that day.

A Bowen session typically lasts 45 minutes, though your first session may be a little longer, to allow the taking of your case history.

After each session, it is important to follow your Bowen therapist’s advice on drinking water and going for a walk. This helps your body to absorb the Bowen session at a deeper level.

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

This depends entirely on the reason for your visit. However, people usually notice a difference within 3 sessions.

Although clients may originally have requested Bowen Technique to address, say, knee pain, they often notice improvement in other symptoms, after their sessions.

For example, one common benefit is that people find they are sleeping better or that other problem symptoms have reduced.

Who Is Your Bowen Therapist?

De-Stress and Re-Balance: Dru Yoga With Peter Briant

What Is Yoga?

Yoga is an ancient system of postures, movements and breathing techniques, designed to create the “union of body and mind”.

In more modern terms, it’s an excellent practice to allow you to:

  • De-stress
  • Relax
  • Get life back into balance
  • Improve your health
  • Be able to stay calmer, even in emotionally-charged situations
  • Improve your fitness
  • Feel happier

Even modern scientists have now agreed with the ancient wisdom that mind, body and emotions are connected. So gentle, focused movements that rebalance the body have the potential to also impact other areas of your life.

What Is Dru Yoga?

Dru Yoga is a graceful and potent form of yoga, based on flowing movements, directed breathing and visualisation. With its foundations set firmly in ancient yogic tradition, Dru works on body, mind and spirit—improving strength and flexibility, creating core stability, building a heightened feeling of positivity, and deeply relaxing and rejuvenating your whole being.

Designed to be practised by people of all abilities, all fitness levels and all age groups, Dru is a style of yoga that can be quickly dipped into or learnt in more depth over a lifetime.

How Does Dru Yoga Work?

The movements, based around ancient yogic postures, work with the spine, helping to keep it healthy.
The body’s main energy sources (blood flow, lymphatics) flow up and down the spine. Blockages can easily develop in joints in the body, if we are out of balance – and the spine is a series of joints. If there are blockages in the body’s energy flow process, it can lead to illness. Dru yoga helps to gently release these blocks.

The gentle movements of Dru yoga mean the muscles can become toned.
The movements keep the muscles relaxed (unlike power yoga and some other disciplines). This helps optimise the bloodflow through the muscles, whilst you are exercising. This leads to better oxygenation of the muscles, improving your health.
The deep relaxation aspects of the yoga classes help you let go and de-stress – something few of us get time for in “normal life”. Many students tell us this is their favourite part of the class!

What Is A Dru Yoga Class Like?

A typical class structure would include:

  • Activations: These are warm-up exercises, to wake you up and warm up each muscle group in turn, in preparation for the yoga postures.
  • Energy Block Release Sequence: This would be a carefully-constructed sequence of postures and movements, specifically designed to help you release blocks in the body, mind and emotions.
  • Posture Work: Traditional yoga postures, performed in a more flowing way than you may have come across before. These postures help various areas of our body, mind and emotions. For example:

Twisting postures can aid digestion
There are postures which ground you, helping you increase your energy and reduce your stress levels
There are postures which promote clear thinking
Some postures and movements will help you sleep or relax
There are postures specifically intended to produce balance

Students leave their classes feeling more balanced, less stressed, energised, refreshed and revitalised.

The goal of a course in Dru meditation is to help you access a point of stillness within you, no matter how chaotic life becomes.

Personal Mentoring With Clare Josa

If you’ve got a change you really want to make in your life, then personal mentoring can really speed things up. It can show you the shortcuts and help you make the changes permanent.

Check Clare Josa's availability for breakthrough mentoring sessions

It’s Not Like Counselling.

You don’t have to trawl through all the painful memories, retelling the stories, experiencing the emotions. Instead you go straight for the underlying cause and release any beliefs, behaviours or thought patterns that have been holding you back from being who you really are.

By dealing with the underlying causes, mentoring can have a dramatic impact. Fast.

You can turn things around in as little as 3 sessions.

What Is Mentoring?

Mentoring is a way of taking a shortcut to making the changes you want in your life.

By working with your mentor, you can:

  • identify the changes you want to make
  • get clear about why you want to make them
  • stay motivated, even if hurdles come up
  • break through barriers that may have blocked you in the past
  • actually enjoy the experience of changing, moving towards the future you really want

A good mentor doesn’t tell you what to do. Instead they use a wide variety of techniques to help you uncover the solutions that will work best for you.

Mentoring can help you release blocks on your journeyAfter your initial, free consultation, it is usual to pre-book 3-5 sessions, depending on what you want to achieve. This is long enough to make concrete progress and it helps you prove to yourself that you are serious about making the changes you want to see.
Sessions can either be face to face or by telephone – or a combination. They are always on a one-to-one basis.

You will normally have a session every 2-4 weeks and will also receive email support in between your sessions. If something comes up and you need to book an extra telephone or face-to-face appointment between your usual mentoring sessions, then we will always do our best to be flexible.

How can mentoring help?

How can mentoring help?

What Kinds Of Things Can Mentoring Help With?
The mentoring through Beyond Alchemy works at very deep levels. We use NLP (neurolinguistic programming) and a range of even deeper acting tools that can help you fix things, once and for all.

We call this Breakthrough Mentoring, because it can really help you make deep-acting, permanent shifts.

It works by helping you deal with the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are running the show. Unlike many other techniques, it deals with the route cause of your behaviour or performance, rather than with the symptoms. This means it can have a transformational effect on all areas of your life.

For example:

You might use NLP to deal with a communication problem at work.
This will have a knock-on effect on all relationships where that type of issue arises.

The great thing about the tools we work with is that they work directly with the thought processes and beliefs that you’re not normally conscious of.
So what?
This means you don’t have to remember “10 steps to success” or “5 critical elements to top performance” – you’ll do it automatically.

Mentoring can help with:

  • Achieving an important goal
  • Improving your communication skills
  • Motivating yourself
  • Giving up a habit you hate
  • Working out what you want – and getting it
  • Improving your health and fitness
  • Or (one of our favourite reasons) to move towards finding inner peace and living a happier life.

Are you ready to finally set yourself free from the excuses that have held you back???

An Emotional Rollercoaster: 7 Musings On Motherhood

If there’s only one truth about becoming a mum, it’s that it changes your life – forever.

The ante-natal classes just don’t do justice to that fact. They talk about lack of sleep, changing nappies and how to “burp” your baby, but rarely do they mention the highs and lows, the tough bits and the amazing bits of motherhood.

So, after a mere 4 years of being on this particular rollercoaster, here are 7 musings on motherhood – and how to feel happier while you’re at it!

Are You Too Much Of A Historian?

When it comes to planning the future, most of us are historians.

We all know how it works.

“How are you?”

“Oh, you know… It was a tough weekend and then I had some really tricky stuff to do at work this week and my boss is always a nightmare, so I guess I’m pretty tired.”

It starts with little things. Someone asks us how we are and the answer we actually give is how we have been, not how we are now. What’s wrong with that? It keeps us in the cycle of how things used to be, throwing away any chance of changing them.

We “tell it how it is” – or even worse – “tell it how it was”.

And then we build in another layer – I call it the “I’ll feel happy when…” syndrome.

“I’ll feel happy when I get the job / relationship / payrise / car / home…”

It’s like happiness is a job we’re always putting off to some unspecified time in the future.

We find ourselves repeating the same patterns of behaviour, the same relationship cycles, the same mistakes.

When we worry about how the future might be, based on how the past was, we’re potentially throwing away any chance to make things different next time. We’re experts on our past – historians, analysing where it all went wrong. But that can keep us trapped with things we can’t change, missing out on the chance to steer things in a new direction.

“Worrying is a way of creating a future you don’t really want.”

The problem is simple:

Most of us are too busy being historians to deliberately plan and create our future.

Imagine a life where we actually learn from the past, history doesn’t repeat itself and we move towards our dreams? Imagine finding yourself where you want to be, more often than where you used to be?

What Is Susan Boyle’s Real Gift To Us?

Susan Boyle, a unemployed 40-something Scottish woman, caused a wave of shock to pass through the UK on Saturday as she wowed judges on “Britain’s Got Talent 2009″.
She confessed she had “never been kissed”, couldn’t quite remember the word for “village” and proudly told us she wants to be a professional singer, dreaming of being compared to her idol, Elaine Paige.

Susan Boyle gave us such a great gift

Susan Boyle gave us such a great gift

The audience was doing more than raising eyebrows as she walked on stage, as were the millions of viewers at home.
You could see from people’s faces that they were drawing conclusions about Susan, purely based on her age and appearance.
Wearing a pretty, floaty, flowery dress, but without make-up or a hairdresser, you could see the audience at the audition had written her off as a crank – as had the judges.
Then she opened her mouth and sang. She had chosen “I dream a dream” from Les Miserables.
And she sang like an Angel.
As her song continued, the astounded faces of the audience and judges said it all. She ended up with a standing ovation and, within hours, YouTube, Facebook and the rest of the internet was overflowing with people saying she had moved them to tears.

It is true that her voice is incredible. Yet the gift she gave us all is much greater than that.
Susan Boyle reminded us how easily we judge people, based on their appearance.

Pretty much every one of us who saw her walk onto the stage had made assumptions about who she was, what she was like and how she would sing. She blew our preconceptions away. And left us feeling humbled.

It is so easy to judge others, without knowing anything about them. But we can miss out on so much, if we do.

So the next time we spot ourselves starting to make a mental comment about someone, how about stopping for a moment and remembering the example of Susan Boyle – and perhaps sending her a thank you smile?

I know I will!

Not seen it yet?

P.S. In case you haven’t seen Susan’s performance yet (she’s allegedly already been offered a deal by Sony!), here’s a YouTube video of Susan Boyle on Britain’s Got Talent.

When Did You Last Wash Your Car?

Is your car spick and span, gleaming its way along the road, recently polished with everything tidily arranged and within easy reach?

Or is it like mine can be – several months past needing its last wash, two-toned with mud and a mass of kids’ snack crumbs, discarded odd socks (the kids again, honest) and random pieces of mail strewn across the footwells?

And why should you care?

All of us have a messy car from time to time, but did you know it tells the world more about you than you might realise?

The way we look after our car is a mirror to how we are feeling

A mind that is calm and happy will create an environment very different to one that is stressed and overwhelmed.

When did you last wash your car?

When did you last wash your car?

For most of us, this shows as clutter on the passenger seat and the need for an overdue wash and wax. It’s all too easy to get into a cycle of neglect.

But things can reach extremes

I had a situation a few months ago where I was trying to do too much with too little time or support. Sure enough, it showed in my car. She (yes, she) was covered in mud from the winter weather, her interior was full of junk and, quite frankly, had I been asked to give anyone a lift, I’d have felt mortified.

It came to a head one lunchtime when I was picking my son up from Kindergarten. I had passed the fuel station, seeing my fuel light on, thinking “it’s only another 10 back to home – I’ll be fine.” Sure enough, on the return trip, I was going up a steep hill and ran out of fuel, grinding to a complete halt on a high speed road. The police had to come to push the car to safety, while I skulked my way to the petrol station to buy an emergency fuel cannister. Now that was mortifying.

But what did it say about me? The message was clear. I wasn’t looking after myself and I was running on empty. Literally.

The quote “as within, so without” comes from ancient wisdom and one of its meanings is that our internal world is reflected in our external reality.

So if we’re looking after something personal, such as our car, keeping it clean, tidy and well-serviced, then we’re probably doing the same to ourselves. Neglecting our car shows we’re likely to be neglecting ourselves. And the same goes for our home, our office or even our appearance. It shows that, at some deeper level, we don’t care.

What can you do?

The biggest step towards turning things around is to be aware of the problem. If you’re neglecting yourself, it will show in your surroundings.

Human nature means we often find it difficult to nurture ourselves. The great news is that “as within, so without” works both ways.

So if you want to turn things around, start by looking after your car – or your bedroom or wherever you’re neglecting on the inside. Turning this into a new routine will produce the side-effect that your “as within” will change, too. You’ll automatically start taking care of your body, your emotions and your mind, which will help you feel more positive.

Results can be fast.

It’s not about suddenly adding a weekly car clean and wax to your “to do” list. It’s much easier than that. Simply keeping your home free of clutter and finishing off the little jobs you start will give your unconscious mind the clear message that things are changing – for the better.

And once you’re into the habit of looking after your outside world, you might be surprised how quickly you think of ways to look after the “inside” you.

Remember: your inner and outer worlds are reflections of each other. You only need to make changes in one of them to impact them both.

And if you’d like some quick fixes, there are some great, easy techniques you can apply right now, to start feeling happier and less stressed in under 5 minutes.

Claim your copy of “5 Secrets To Feeling Happier Now” by going to http://www.howtofeelhappier.com and registering for our monthly “Inspirations” ezine. You’ll find the boxes in the top right hand corner.
